We are booking flights from Bari to Catania and Catania to Rome. Does anyone have any experience with Ryanair, are they reliable? We will be in Southern Italy for the month of October, any advice on what types of weather we might encounter?
I've flown Ryan Air many times and have never had any problems. They have a good on-time record and the flight crews are usually very nice. The main complaint I have is that they nickel and dime you for everything. They have some pretty inexpensive flights, especially if you book them several months ahead, but you will pay extra to check a bag and for an assigned seat. Extra luggage or very heavy bags will also incur extra fees. You should read all the fine print for any airline you are buying tickets for, especially budget carriers. You also want to be sure to print your boarding pass before arriving at the airport or they charge you $75 to print them at the desk! You can print these up to a month beforehand, so it shouldn't be a problem.
Weather in Southern Italy is generally very nice in October. This varies of course by location and from the beginning of the month to the end. Catania is typically mostly sunny in October with temps. between 70-80 degrees F, but you could also have occasional rain.

Ryanair is the largest airline operating in Italy. It's a low cost airline based in Irland, and truly no frills. They are very strict with carry on baggage allowance (one piece and one piece only). It's is cheaper to pay the luggage fee online ahead of time.
Try no to get suckered in by Ryan Air's base price. When you add in all their extra fee$ and the possible expense of transport to/from their out of the way airports, using the flag carriers is more or less the same price unless you book way in advance. Plus you get the added benefit of not being sticklers about boarding times, slightly overweight luggage, free food/beverages, more leg room, and being able to get your boarding pass at the airport without penalty.

I think BRI-CTA is served by Volotea only.
Are you flying RyanAir via Rome? I don't think they have a non stop from BRI to CTA.
This is the third Ryanair thread in recent days where Michael S has posted the exact same paragraph - complete with typo. For my part, I have flown with Ryanair air several times with no problems. My flights have never been cancelled, and we arrived on time or early. Ryanair has a great safety record, and their planes are newer. If you register with their new My Ryanair, you can get a credit toward your next booking for a couple of specific time periods, one of which might work for you. The credit is 10 pounds ($13.30). Might be worth a look.
Thank you all for your advice and information.
You"re right Roberto BRI-CTA is served by Volotea only. They seem to have the same rules.
I think we will check one bag and carry on the rest. ?
