Running

I am a long distance runner and will be in the middle of training when I take my Italy trip. We will be based for a week in Sicily - Syracuse. Will I find it easy to run there? Are they paths? Any suggestions. How about for Rome?

Janet: You can go here to get an idea of typical weather in Sicily during the specific days you'll be training there

input specific time span & location(s)

Might want to focus on the dew points, over 65 is hot (need lots of water on the run), over 70 is sweltering.

Thanks for the weather link. I train in Chicago and just ran 10 miles and the temp was 85 degrees.

Hi Janet,

My heart goes out to you! I was in the middle of marathon training during an Italy trip last year, and I found it really hard to motivate myself for long runs, but I'm sure you'll leave footprints all over Italy.

Can't speak to Sicily, but for Rome, the Borghese Gardens are a nice, central, safe park (much like Central Park in NYC) where you'll pass a jillion other runners. But you'd have to do a few laps to get serious miles in. The ancient Appian Way, south of the city, would also be nice (flat, straight out-and-back), but I haven't gotten out there.

Have you checked out the travel section of runnersworld.com? Here's the Runners World article on Rome, with a tiny little map to illustrate the runs.

We are going in September. I saw the Runners World article, but had trouble enlarging the map. Will try on another computer.
