Hello everyone,
I am doing this tour in about 5 weeks. I am looking for recommendations for the 'down time.' I know we often get the afternoons off, but aren't most places closed in the afternoons in these smaller towns. If you have taken this tour, what did you do other than walk around? Were there specific things you can do in the smaller villages that you planned for ahead of time, or did you just 'wing it?' (And, knowing what Rick says about planning ahead, I would prefer this). Thanks for any insights you can provide. :)

Have you looked at the tour scrapbooks - there are several from people who have gone on this tour in the last several years. Go to the 2008 Tours page, click on "Online Tour Scrapbooks" (right hand side) and then "see all scrapbooks" at the bottom of the scrapbook page.

We did this trip last Sept. and it was wonderful. You will have a great time. Be sure to do the bike ride on the walls in Lucca. Check out the traveler feedback too when you look at the scrapbooks. You can probably get some ideas there. Have fun.
