eWhere do we get tickets for "Secret itenarary" for Doges' Palace and it the tour worth it?
How do we get to Murano and then Burano and back to San Marco?
Why are we having so much trouble getting restaurant reservations in Italy? Any easy ideas?

See p. 61 of your Rick Steves' Italy book for the Secret Itinerary phone number or book online at http://palazzoducale.visitmuve.it/en/the-museum/layout-and-collections/secret-itineraries/. If it's available, I'd go ahead to spend a little more, and if it's not, then the decision is made for you.

If you have not been to Venice before, then the trip to the islands would not be my top priority. Are you going a few days early to see more? See boat info on pages 76-78, but then you can review that with your tour escort or hotel staff too, especially in relation to your hotel location.

Many casual restaurants don't need reservations. Some that do encourage reservations will take them online. There may be some where you have to call. If you're staying near S. Marco in Venice, then I'd consider a reservation at either of the two restaurants on p. 112. If you arrive in Assisi on a Friday or Saturday (but maybe most departures don't), then I found that reserving dinner made sense, especially at the Trattoria Pallotta on p. 781, very close to Hotel Umbra, if that's your hotel.
