Hi we're taking the Rick Steves Best of Italy 17 days tour in September and I'm just curious to know, from those who have already taken that tour THIS year, what hotels were you booked at in the Dolomites region and in Lake Como? We won't get our complete hotel itinerary until 30 days before our tour starts and I realize that they probably have different hotels booked at different times but just wanted to get a feel for where they have been staying in these regions. Thanks.
You may want to check with the RS tour office. You are asking for “THIS year” and these tours have just started.
Also, check out the tour alum scarpbooks to see if there are any submitted for the tour you are taking. Often, they include names (and photos) of the hotels along with many other details about the tours.

Yes, was able to get a preliminary list of hotels from RS. Helpful in planning.
Hi! I returned from this tour two weeks ago. It was an amazing tour with so many diverse and interesting things to see and do.
Our hotel in the Dolomites was Hotel Cavallino D'Oro in Castelrotto. It was lovely. One of the best hotels on the tour. The room was comfortable and the breakfasts amazing. They had a honor's bar and a very comfortable sitting/gathering area off the lobby of the hotel.
In the Lake Como area we stayed in the town of Lecco at Hotel Lungolago Lecco. It left much to be desired. My room was very run down with dirty torn carpet, broken furniture and peeling paint. The breakfasts were adequate. This hotel was definitely the exception and the only one i gave a "poor" rating on my tour review.
On a side note, we had to take the train (a short distance) from Lecco to Varenna to use the ferry system to get to the other towns on the lake. We were told that the tours used to stay in Varenna. Because it has become so popular, they can not find a hotel that will take tour groups any longer. Thus, finding affordable lodging in other locations.
Enjoy your tour!!
Thank you so much for your reply. Since I made my original post, I DID contact the RS tour office and they sent me a preliminary list of the hotels along the way for our tour in September. In Lecco, the list shows the Hotel NH Lecco Pontevecchio and in The Dolomites, the list shows the Stadt Hotel Citta in Bolzano as our accommodation. Sorry you had a negative experience at your hotel in Lecco...sounds like it was definitely not up to RS Tour standards.
