For those of you that have been on Rick Steves' 17 Day Best of Italy Tour, are there any recommendations regarding what you did or what you wished you would have done that would make my tour experience even better? (Edit: I have moved this posting to the Rick Steves Tour section of this Forum. Please reply there).
We were on that tour in September 2014. While 17 days seems like a long time, it isn't! Read your guidebook for each location and plan what you want to see that the tour is not doing. You can waste a lot of time "not knowing" what to do. Sienna is beautiful. Enjoy. Enjoy your surprise hill town. Decide if you really want to hike in Montorosa or would you really rather just lounge and maybe take the train between the little towns. Some in our group took the train down and then the boat back to Montorosa reporting a great trip. We had a great tour guide and bus driver that added to the fun. Hope your trip is great!
Five weeks to go. I appreciate your input.
We count this tour as our favourite of all our vacations. My biggest regret was not making reservations and seeing the Borghese Gallery in Roma. After the tour we did a Eating Italy tour of Testaccio which was great. I understand that there is now an eating tour in Trastevere and if we return we will definitely do it too.
yosemite1, you might consider asking the Webmaster to move this thread to Rick Steves Tours. It can be more easily found there, and has the bonus of having a link directly from the Tours pages!
