Route via car from Vicenza to Cortona

We are renting a car to check out Vicenza and then heading south to Ceprtona for a couple of days before driving to Orvierto and unloading car. What roads would be an enjoyable drive. We have 6 hours to sightsee a little along the way. Any thoughts?

Forgive me for pointing out that it's Orvieto, not Orvierto. (If you hadn't spelled it "Orvierto" twice in another posting, I wouldn't have brought it up.) I just don't want you to be practicing saying it incorrectly only to have the locals look at you funny once you get to that beautiful hilltop town. Imagine if someone kept referring to "St. Pertersburg." :-) I'll let others who have actually done that long drive respond with suggestions on possible routes. My personal preference would be to train from Vicenza to somewhere closer to Cortona, maybe Arezzo, and pick up the rental car there. Happy travels.

Look at Italian Touring Club maps for scenic roads. Some go through towns with specific historical sites (Etruscan tombs, ancient ruins, walled hill towns), it depends on what your interests are.

Hey Michael,
Sorry for the typos but I type it correctly but spell check has a mind of its own with foreign words and I don't look up and catch them all. Reason for car in Vicenza is our hotel is 5 miles out of Vicenza and we are there 3 days and wanting to do day trips to La Rotonda, Verona, and Pasova, & I figured it would be cheaper to rent for week & would like to see scenic stuff off the beaten path. Map quest said it is about a 3 hours 35 min which seems very doable to me. I was hoping someone has driven this stretch with good options. Thanks for watching my spelling.
