Brenda,
I assume you're referring to Vernazza in the Cinque Terre? There are two common routes from Venice to the Cinque Terre, one through Milan and one through Florence. Which one you'll use will depend on what time you want to depart and which train you can connect with. You can see all the details on the Trenitalia or bahn.de websites. With the Trenitalia site, you'll have to enter the station names in Italian. Many cities have more than one station. Your departure station will be Venezia Santa Lucia.
One of the easiest trips in terms of number of changes will be a departure at 07:25, arriving 13:37 (time 6H:12M, 2 changes at Firenze SMN and La Spezia Centrale). The first leg on that route will be via Freccia high speed train (reservations compulsory) and the next two legs will be via Regionale trains (with those you MUST validate your tickets prior to boarding the train on the day of travel, or risk hefty fines which will be collected on the spot!). If you're used to "changes", there are numerous other trains with three or four changes.
