Route from Bolzano to Cinque Terre, Itinerary help!

Good Morning!

We will be in Bolzano in July, and want to make our way to Cinque Terre via train. We are traveling with a teen and a toddler, so I don't want to do the entire train trip in 1 day. Here is our itinerary so far:

Arrive Milan, spend 2 nights in hotel
Take train Milan to Bolzano
5 nights in Bolzano
Train to Cinque Terre, but need 1 overnight stop, thinking back to Milan or Possibly Verona?
After CT, take train to Lucca 5 nights
Train to Florence 2 nights, then fly home.

What are your thoughts or suggestions on breaking up the train ride from Bolzano to CT?

First, in July, Bolzano will be very hot. I suggest you stay up in the Val Gardena where it will be much cooler. Hard to take the bus with the baby, but I can recommend a taxi driver that will take you for €90 each direction. LMK.

We go to the Val Gardena every year and stay one night in Milan after our flight, then train to Bolzano and have the taxi (actually a van) pick us up.

Try Parma, Modena, or Bologna for your stopover. I did not research connections for you so you’ll have to see if they are efficient.
