Route from Aosta to Switzerland -- detour to France?

We are ending our Italy trip with a visit to a friend in Aosta before heading toward Sion in Switzerland. We are not driving this stage. Has anyone done this? It looks like we need to go toward Martigny, Switzerland. Bus or train?

Or, is it worth our while to go via Courmayeur and Chamonix, before heading to Martigny? Again, is the train better, or a bus?

This trip is about scenery, food, easy hikes, accommodation with views ...basically la vita dolce. We've been to Switzerland, Italy and France before, but never this corner, so any ideas are welcome.

Still planning on being in Aosta at the end of May and deciding if we should go to Chamonix or just right to Switzerland. when I search both in Rome2Rio.com, I get choices of driving (no, not taking a rental to another country), bus, or ride share. The ride share that comes up is BlaBlaCar, and they go both to France and Switzerland. Does anyone know about this company? Is it reliable? Safe? The prices are very low.

Blablacar is basically a carpooling website. Many French people use it, and possibly in surrounding countries too. It is fairly reliable, BUT (1) you need to be comfortable sharing the car of a stranger who isn't a professional driver - even though there is an evaluation system like Uber's (2) you need to be flexible on your schedule, since a driver needs to drive the route you want on the day you want at the time you want (3) you need a plan B in the unlikely case of a cancellation.

My bottom line: take the bus!

If you want scenery, head toward Courmayeur and take the Skyway Monte Bianco (€52). Check to see if the weather is clear at the top before heading there on the official website. Or you could take the cable car to Aiquille du Midi in Chamonix (€96)

Seems like the simplest and most economical way to get to Sion from either Courmayeur or Aosta is to take the FlixBus (buy tickets early using their app for best prices) to Chamonix and then train to Sion.
