Hi, I'm wondering if I need to purchase advance r/t rail tix from Milan to Monterroso/Cinque Terre (Fri Oct 10-Tue Oct 14, 2025 . Do I risk not getting a seat (1st or 2nd class) if I purchase at the kiosk after landing? I'm trying to avoid extra costs in case my flight is delayed in to Milan (from US) and I don't make my departure time.
No need to buy r/t tickets, as there is no advantage. Yes, buy from the kiosk when you arrive at the airport (MXP I presume). Hardly any chance the train is full. You can buy the return tickets now in order to obtain a discount for Economy or Super Economy tickets.
Get the Trenitalia app before you goto store tickets, check trains and buy tickets once you're there.
Please be aware this is a long trip by train - between 4.5 to 6 hours - with at least one change at Milano Centrale. If you are rolling off a plane with jet lag just be prepared.
Have a great trip,

Not sure what Hiredman is considering. It is a three to four hour trip from Milano. He may be throwing in the time to get from the airport to Milano. Lots of trains, mostly rapid regional. Buy your ticket when you get there that way you can take the first available train.
The journey from MXP to Milano Centrale is about 1 hour
From Milano Centrale there are direct ( no changes) IC trains to Monterosso-3 hour journey
What time is flight scheduled to arrive?
Oct 10 10:37 and 12:37
I would aim for one of those IC trains ( similar to fast trains with reserved seating)
Thanks to all for your quick and very helpful responses. It is sincerely appreciated.
