After some frustration with kayak.com (not good for CT, but otherwise useful in Italy) I turned to Tripadvisor.com for user reviews and followed reviews to this place: L'Eremo sul Mare http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187822-d625337-Reviews-L_Eremo_sul_Mare-Vernazza_Cinque_Terre_Italian_Riviera.html It's a bit of a schlep, but it's out of the hustle and bustle of Vernazza yet close enough to hustle and bustle. I did try a couple other places first and they were booked. I was booking two weeks ago for a trip in June. Try to use websites for the particular places. If you use a broker or middleman (http://cinqueterre.it/info.php is one) they will increase the prices of the rooms. Using a middleman, all the rooms were 120-130 euros. Contacting the sites directly, the rooms were 80-90 euros. Just my two lire.

We loved staying here http://www.mariacapellini.com/index.html last OCtober. Sweet people, 90 euros a night. Great to have a little kitchen place to hang laundry. Maria and Giacomo are the nicest hosts, too.

I agree with Laurel. We rented the Cozy Studio from Maria Capellini last September. We paid 85 euros per night. Maria doesn't speak much English, but we were able to communicate anyway. Giacomo speaks much better English. They are both very nice. I even got an email from them wishing us a Merry Christmas!
