Rooms in Manarolo, Cinque Terre

I'm not sure why, but of all the towns in CT, I seem to have settled on staying in Manarolo. I know Rick recommends Vernazza but it sounds like Manarolo is more laid back and quiet. Any opinions? I'm looking for recommendations of rooms with a view. We are a healthy cheapskate boomer couple (so, in other words, we can climb a million stairs to our room). Molto grazie!

Kay, i think Manarola is a great choice, we stayed there last September, a lot more quiet and laid back than Vernazza. Lots of restaurants, great waterfront, we stayed at www.carugiu.com, no view of the water but a view of the vineyards, we loved it. Have fun!

I'm another "cheapskate" backdoor traveler. I stay at Mueble Agavi in Monterosso (in the ETBD books). It's on the beach, separated from the Med. only by a street. Rates are reasonable. Many of the rooms face the sea. It's best to reserve by phone. At least in the past they didn't use the internet for booking. It's a small (10 rms) family-run place, walkable to the old and new parts of town. There are other places in Monterosso with views.

Kay - All of the villages are Amazing - My choice would be and has been Vernazza - Please check out Carla's website - http://www.nerinarooms.it/
Her place is directly on The Harbor next to Al Castello - An excellent restaurant with amazing sea views.
And please - Be sure to walk the section of trail from Manarola to Riomaggiore called the Via dell'Amore (lover's path) - Relatively flat and paved - about one mile with a Cafe halfway for a cold drink. Pic included.

I agree with you: when I have a chance to go back to the Cinque Terre, I will stay in Manarola. We stayed in Riomaggiore before, but walked all the trails and explored all the villages and like Manarola best. Hope you get more suggestions from people who've been there.

Kay,

I'm not sure if this will be suitable for a "cheapskate boomer couple", but you might have a look at This B&B as the atmosphere and views are great. It's a bit more "high end" though and I believe they've done some renovations over the winter.

You could also have a look at This Hotel which might be a bit less expensive.

There are other listings in the Italy Guidebook, in different price ranges. I often check TripAdvisor just to see what kind of "user comments" each property has.

Happy travels!
