We will be in Florence the first week of April next year and would like to find a room with a kitchen so that we can prepare some of our meals and save a little money. We were in the Cinque Terra in May and loved our little room with a kitchen. We would buy fresh pasta and the best pesto I've ever tasted along with bread and wine and have a gourmet meal for much less than eating out. Any recommendations?

Try this website www.cross-pollinate.com It's a bed and breakfast and apartment booking agency owned and operated by an American family living in Rome. They have places in Rome, Florence and Venice. I have used them many times and they are great and affordable. They are also recommended in Ricks book on Italy.
Do a google search for 'Florence rooms kitchen' to see what you can fine. Also try 'Florence apartments'. We rented an apartment in CT and enjoyed eating our meals there. We splurged once a day on sea food at one of the nearby restaurants. That's the way to live.
Here is suggestion:
Small studio apartments with kitchen in centre of Florence
or Attic apartment fully equipped
or Guest house with shared kitchen and laundry facilities.
Hope it helps.
I used vrbo.com with good success to find apartments in Florence and Rome.
