We just spent 2 nights at the end of May at the Hotel Al Piave and were very happy with our stay. Pleasant staff, clean rooms, close, but not too close, to St Marks area.

Just a double, for myself and my husband.(Not big, but we didn't spend much time there) The bed was comfortable. Top floor of course, but when we arrived they carried our luggage up for us. The breakfast was fine also, and they will give you eggs on request. Having never stayed anywhere else in Venice I have nothing to compare it to, but would stay there again.

We stayed at Corte Campana. A 3 room B&B near San Marco's. The best thing about it was it was so quiet yet so close to the action. The owner is Riccardo who is great fun and has good recommendations for sight seeing, restaurants, shops to get good prices for Murano glass, etc.

We've stayed at Pensione Guerrato twice and can recommend them highly. They're absolutely great.

Sadly, we've decided that we will stay someplace else in Venice when we return next year, but we want to experience a different neighborhood for a change. We're thinking Canareggio. If only Piero and Roberto (owners of Guerrato) had a pensione there, we'd sign up in a heartbeat.

I stayed at La Calcina (Dorsoduro) and loved it. Historic building, great staff, excellent breakfast, very clean, and the location was perfect for me. It's a 5 minute walk to the Academia stop on the Grand Canal (another 15 minutes max to San Marco), or there's a vaporetto practically on the hotel doorstop that goes across the lagoon to San Marco. It is a very quiet area, nice to come "home" to, away from the tourist crush.

Going in Sept. After much research, will be staying at www.cadeldose.com. Lorenzo has been extremely responsive and for cash, just 100 Euros per night. Great central location.

Do any of these hotels have 4 person rooms? We will only be in Venice one day/night and are traveling with our 2 kids (10 and 14)....
