Can anyone reccommend an inexpensive apartment or hotel near where the cruise ships come in? We will be going on a cruise in June of 09 with our grandson and would like to stay in Venice a night or two before we depart on the cruise.

From what I recall of the cruise dock -- only seeing it from a Vaporetto -- I don't think there are any apartments very close to them....

I am not aware of apartments or rooms near the cruise terminal docks although there may be some. There is a nice hotel near the docks that gets nice reviews. Look up the Palazzo Odoni. It's within walking distance of the docks.

Venice is a very small town and the area of the cruise ship is quite far from all the hotels and apartmens, you need to go there by water bus (vaporetti). So I suggest you to choose an accommodation close to a vaporetti stops in the center of Venice.
