I would like to find a reasonably priced room for a few nights in September. Clean, private bath, a/c, free breakfast and wifi would be awesome! A view would be a plus, but within walking distance of city center. Also - I will be there for the Festival of the Lanterns. Has anyone attended and would this prohibit other activities in the area? Thanks for your help.
Have you checked booking.com? "Reasonable" can be defined differently for different people - for me, €100-120 is reasonable for Firenze.
Betty,
We stayed at the Hotel California last September as part of our RS Tour. It was a very clean and quiet hotel. It was located about two blocks from the Duomo. Another perk of this hotel is that they offer laundry service which sure came in handy for us.
Betty, we really enjoy hotellascaletta.it and have stayed there as often as possible since 2001. It's in a mansion from the 14th century so none of the rooms are the same but I believe they're all comfortable. It's located in the Oltrarno but not far from the Ponte Vecchio and overlooks the Boboli Gardens. Also the staff are wonderful and so helpful! The views from the roof-top terrace are magnificent, overlooking Florence or the Boboli Gardens where you can have breakfast and dinner (but I recommend a reservation for dinner).
I can recommend Soggiorno Battistero, and so has Rick Steves. You can't get more central than having the Baptistery right out your window. Prices are reasonable, Wi-Fi and breakfast are included, and there is an elevator.
I have 2 Friends which should open a bed And breakfast in May. It is in an antique palace centrally located, all newly restored with a new lift.
It should open some time in May.
Thank you all for your posts. I would think "reasonable" to avg. around $110./night; although I understand that you pay more for popular destinations. I am still in the process of planning. Has anyone attended the Festival of Lanterns (Birthday celebration of the Virgin Mary) during this time? Just curious. Thanks
We have rented a lovely 1 bedroom flat that faces Santa Maria Novella - spectacular views and sunsets - 3 minutes walk from the train station, 10 minutes from the Duomo. The owners are very gracious and the flat is very comfortable - HomeAway Property 11939 - rents for 80 Euros a night in September.
Hotel Bigallo is just around the corner from the baptistery, very nice rooms and breakfast. Views from common areas. Easy walk
from the train station, single is $119 on booking.com. I will stay there again.
