Rome ZTL question........

Yep, us again, the 1st timers....holy cow so many questions.....because my husband is disabled (Walks with crutches) we are wondering about this. Can our cousins who are picking us up at our hotel which is in a ZTL zone pick us up because of his disability? how would this work? or do we have to take a taxi maybe to outside the ZTL zone to meet them so we can drive to their house for big party...LOL

Where do the cousins live? Are they Rome residents, who I think would be permitted to drive within the ztl?

I may be wrong but I think you have to apply in person at an Azienda Sociale Locale (ASL) in order to get an Italian Disabled Parking Placard. And, even if you get one, I don't know how it pertains to ZTLs.

You can register your car with the local police in order to get access to ZTLs if you are staying inside one. Or have your hotel do it for you (immediately) at check-in. But, it sounds as if YOU aren't renting a car - your cousins are picking you up.

So, what you might do is contact your hotel and see if they can enter your cousins' car number plate into the system for the duration of your stay. You never know, they might just do that for you.

Or, just call a taxi and forget all the hassle...

Your cousins can only drive into a ZTL if their plate is registered. The hotel might register their plate if you ask but since they aren't staying there they probably won't be allowed to. They cannot drive into a ZTL just to pick you up.

Also I'm not familiar with the ZTL of Rome, but you may want to verify your hotel is actually inside of it and if it is, the hours of operation. After a certain hour or on Sunday entry is permitted.

Also, all ZTL violations occurred by people transporting disabled passengers even without permit, have been deemed illegitimate by the Judge of Peace and annulled. Of course one still needs to go to the hassle of contesting them to the judge of peace.
