My kids (ages 14 & 15) and I will be spending a week in and around Rome in early July, and I'd love to find a nice beach to hang out on for a day or so. Thinking about Positano? Any better alternatives?

Positano doesn't have much of a beach. Head to Sperlonga where you will find a beach that has been awarded a Blue Flag for clear water and environmental management. The beach here is pure sand - not the tiny rocks you will encounter on most of the Amalfi Coast. Sperlonga is a lazy beach town but if it's the beach you want you can't go wrong. It's a little over an hour from Rome by train - take the train and then a short bus ride to reach Sperlonga.
