Rome With Limitations

My in-laws will be visiting Rome in April and my mother-in-law is wheelchair bound. Any advice on a good way to see the sites with limitations? Is there a handicap-accessible double-decker bus tour? Thanks for your help!

Are you kidding? The one area that I think Europe really lags is in handicap accessibility. The couple of times we have been on the Rome hop on/off buses we saw wheel chairs but the person had to be able to get out of the chair and on to the bus by themselves and then the chair was folded. If she is totally wheelchair bound, you could have some problems. If she has enough mobility to climb a couple of stairs she should be ok. This site has a whole section on accessibility with good reference. Try http://www.ricksteves.com/graffiti/graffiti5.html
