We will be traveling with our 14 yr old grandson in. July and before our tour starts we will have two days free. Our tour starts at the Michaelangelo near the Vatican. Would it be a god idea to stay the one night near the Vatican or somewhere else and then taxi back. Also need something fun for a younger person that the tour might not do.

For starters, what tour are you taking? If it's a Rick Steves' tour (and if it is, which one?), we can see what you're scheduled to do and give you suggestions based on that. Is the Michaelangelo a hotel? If possible, stay where your tour is staying. More info - what are your grandson's interests? Don't discount the possibility that all or some of you will be exhausted that first day or two after your flight, so don't plan too heavily. I suggest making a list of several ideas, then choosing from them as your stamina allows.
