Rome- which neighborhood to stay in for a 4 day visit

First stop on Italy trip is Rome in September. I know that I am most interested in Ancient Rome but also want to visit Jewish Ghetto and I was told to see the Orange Trees Garden on Aventino and stroll through Testaccio neighborhood. Will likely take one day for Vatican as well, maybe. The Jewish Ghetto and the Synagogue there are VIP for me to visit, I am booked now at Residenza Maritti but am worried this is too far from these other things if I want to be closer , I would love suggestions on best location for this visit, thank you!

You can't be close to everything in Rome. The historical center is large. You are at 5-10 min walk from the Colosseum and the Forum and the Palatine villa (so basically ancient Rome). You are 20 min walk from the Jewish ghetto and the Jewish temple (synagogue). The Giardino degli Aranci is a bit farther, about 25 min walk. The Vatican is more distant, so you'll need to take a bus or a taxi, unless you want to walk for over 2 miles. When in Rome do as the Romans do: use the public means of transportation (Usa i mezzi!!, or 'Use the means' as they say in Rome).

Your hotel is in the Monti neighborhood -- a very walkable area with great restaurants and coffee shops. From Monti, I easily walked to the Colosseum and to Trastevere. Ghetto is nearby. You'll also be a short walk to the Basilica of San Pietro in Vincoli -- with the astounding Moses by Michelangelo! No entry fee and not much crowds when I visited in the fall. For my trip next month, I picked a hotel in Trastevere just to try something new. Since you're going to Testaccio, there is a fabulous food tour there (Eating Europe). Loved the tour when I took it in 2019, booked again for my upcoming trip!

I will add to your interest to visit the Jewish Ghetto, etc. On our first trip to Rome almost 16 years ago it was recommended we do a Jewish walking tour with Jewish Roma. It was the best decision we made when visiting Rome. It was September and it coincided with the high holy days. We hired Michaela Provencello the owner. She started her tours in 2003 & is still going strong. She recommended restaurants & introduced us to the merchants of the Ghetto. She was engaging & knowledgeable. It sounds like the area you will be staying is ideal. https://www.jewishroma.com/our-tours/

Unless kosher is important, avoid the restaurants in the ghetto. I ate there twice, the second time following recommendations and both times the food was poor. On my second try - a couple weeks ago, it was the worst meal I had ever eaten in Italy and the service matched.
