I'm going to be spending three nights in Rome at the beginning of April. I'm going crazy trying to find something in the $150/night range and located within the city limits. I love the Campo de Fiori, Pantheon, Trevi, Spanish Steps areas, but I'm looking at $200+ per night. I only have the 2007 RS Italy book and many of his recommendations are already booked. Please . . .?
Hi. What dates will you be there? How many are traveling with you?
Good questions. My dates for Rome are March 31, April 1 and April 2. We are two ladies of a certain age traveling together through Italy and Croatia from March 31 through April 14. Oh, and we also need a place to stay in Rome for the nights of April 13 and 14. Thanks so much!
suggest you check monasterystays.com or santasusanna.org with santa susanna click on"coming to Rome," and a list of convents and monasteries in Rome that will be at or below that price range. We usually stay at Santa Maria alle Fornachi which is near the Vatican and within walking distance of all the sites you mentioned and around 95 Euros for a double with a nice breakfast. You can find them on Trip Advisor.
Thanks, Jerry. I'll check those sites out right now!
I'm in love with venere.com. A quick look at the areas you mentioned shows that there are 2-3 choices. One or so in each spot of the city but to have a private bathroom you might have to spend 160-180. I found a lot aof lovely apartments on vrbo.com but most require deposits and cleaning fees so we stuck with venere.com. There were quite a few in the Colosseum area within your budget.
Have fun looking. it takes time but it's a lot of fun.
Thanks, Leslie. I loved Venere when we went to New Zealand a few years back. I just forgot about them. Now I will try them again. Thanks again.
Investing the $13 or so in the new RS Italy book will be more than worth it, imho. Good luck.
Nicolas Inn on Via Cavour is a great place; close to sites, reasonably priced.
