Rome visit mid-November 2019

When in Roma....
Recently returned from month-long Italy trip with last week in Rome. The Santa Maria Sopra Minerva church was closed indefinitely for structural damage repairs. Vatican museum has lots of rooms completely or partially walled off for restoration/repairs. Other churches have shifted to winter hours: longer lunches or earlier closings. There were lots of random road closings, government building and monument closings and/or heavy security (looked like was for politician protection). Rain heavy at times but mostly misting/drizzles. Buses, metro and tourist sites packed anyway. Fountains had plenty of water tho'.

We were just there at the end of October/beginning of November. I agree with your assessment. We were very disappointed that Santa Maria Sopra Minerva was closed though we did enjoy many of the other churches. Just amazing to me that all those churches have major works of art! Buses were indeed very crowded which was frustrating. Metro less so, but of course, the metro in Rome doesn't provide great coverage (due to all the buried ruins)
