We met in Rome back in 2008, and are returning for a honeymoon which will include Venice which only I have visited. The honeymoon is April 28 - May 10. I am looking for tips of special things that I could do or plan in order to make the time even more special. We are financially limited as the wedding is depleting our travel fund, but any advice would be welcomed! Thank you!
Cut back on the number of guests at the wedding and start saving your money for a gondola ride. Expensive, but hard to beat for romance. Don't take a gondola from St. Mark's down the Grand Canal, but instead go to one of the many other places with gondolas that can take you right into the smaller back canals that aren't jammed up with other gondolas. You'll get to see parts of Venice that can only be seen from a boat.

I personally think the Gondola rides are the biggest tourist trap ripoff in Europe and nowhere near the money they charge but I understand that some people have to do it when you go to Venice, particularly on a honeymoon. If you can avoid the temptation, the money you will spend (around 100 euros) would be much better spent on a beautiful canalside dinner. It will last longer (an entire evening versus 40 minutes) and be much more satisfying and fulfilling. However, if you have to do the Gondola ride, I'd suggest going all out. Find one that will sing (and not charge you extra for it) and take a bottle of prosecco along with you.
