Rome + Venice for Christmas 2019

Hi,

I'm traveling to Italy for two weeks over Christmas (Dec. 21 - Jan. 3) with my family of five (kids are 16, 14, 12). We're flying in and out of Rome and hope to split our time between Rome and Venice with a side trip to Nat'l Archaeological Museum in Naples + Pompeii if we can squeeze it in. I understand that much will be closed on Dec. 25 and 26, but would welcome any advice on how to structure this trip, what to do during the holidays, where to stay or eat, and overall how we can have an incredible time since this is a first visit to Italy for everyone in my family (except me). Thanks!

If you haven't booked your flight yet, you definitely want to consider flying open-jaw, or multi-city (into one city and out of the other). That means booking both flights together, NOT two individual one-way flights. Going to Venice first would be my preferred option.
