Planing two weeks in September for Italy trip
Thinking of flyng into Rome and train to Venice then to Florence and next Amalfi and back to Rome - about 3 nights each stop - Thoughts on this itinerary ? is flying to Rome and train to Venice doable in first day ? Stay in Positano or Amalfi ? Best area to stay in Rome for mingling with locals etc ? Is guide for Vatican tour worth cost ? Does Apple Pay work for many things? Thank you for help
It would be better if you could fly into Venice and out of Rome (or Naples), but it is no trouble to hop on a fast train on arrival in Rome.
I would question whether you really want to include all four locations because two full days in each place is a bit brief, especially after all the travel to the Amalfi Coast.
We did this trip before. Took the train from Rome to Salerno and hopped on the ferry to Positano. It's a beautiful ride, and you can see all the Amalfi coast towns from the water. We then took the ferry back to Salerno and took the train to Florence for a few days, and from there on to Venice from there. We flew out of Venice.
You're in luck! There have been almost daily posts here on the Forum on this very same subject. Just review the posts under Italy from the past few months. All your questions have already been answered, and even some you haven't asked yet, in great detail.
It is recommendable to fly into Venice and out of Rome, not the reverse, as early morning flights out of Venice are difficult .
Lodging prices are high this year , and supply in short demand, so book lodging asap.
Have a great trip!
Great selection of cities! My friend and I are doing a similar trip in a few months, and here's the approach we landed on. Happy to share more after our trip on how this itinerary works out!
- Fly into Venice
- 2 nights - Venice, then
- 4 nights - Florence, then
- 3 nights - Amalfi Coast, then
- 4 nights - Rome, then
- Fly back from Rome
When you're searching for flights, it's helpful to search for "multi-destination" options so that you can fly into one city and back home from another.
Best of luck with all of your planning!
