Rome, Venice, Florence

Need Advice!

1 We are staying 4 days in Rome. Our hotel (Hotel d'inghilterra)is very near the Spanish Steps and Metro Stop (Spagna). Should we buy advanced Metro pass similar to Oyster in London? Is it feasible to walk to Central/Old City from here? Hotel is small & very expensive. Business travel will cover our cost but we are traveling w/our kids ages 19&24 and desperately need to find a safe, clean, really cheap place near us for the to bed down for the night. They will be will us during the day and can wash up and keep the bulk of luggage at our hotel. Help! This area is so expensive. Any hostels, churches, etc. anyone knows of within walking distance or metro stop? We have agreed on one metro stop away for safety and time convenience. Some have suggested the beehive?

My husband's conference is over on Thursday night and we are planning a 3 day train trip from Rome to Venice and Venice to Florence. Looking at fares it seems the 3 day rail pass is better choice for 2 adults 2 youth. We plan to leave early am on Friday. Can anyone look at our start at an itinerary and let me know if this is feasible. We are traveling light and Rick's way(love the locals!)leaving the bulk of our luggage behind in Rome. If there are any small towns along the way we can explore please let me know. My husband and I have stayed a week in Florence, but want the kids to see the town. We don't plan to do the Uffiti due to the time to "do it right".
Friday am: Early train from Rome to Florence
Friday noon: Arrive Florence/Tour/Overnight
Sat am: Depart Florence 1pm/Arrive Venice 4pm
Sat: Evening/Overnight Venice
Sun: Tour Venice Depart 1:23 Arrive Rome 7:03

Thanks so much for your time.

As far as Rome, you can buy a 3 day metro pass for 11 euros. Its a bargain. You can go anywhere by metro and have a very short walk to site at each stop. For instance the colosseum stop is literally AT the colosseum! There are hostels and convents they might stay but I don't have any specifics.

Rome is walkable city and the center is small. If you think you will be taking public transport look at the RomaPass (www.romapass.it) it covers admission to 2 sights and unlimited local transport for 3 days.

The Spanish Steps is an expensive area. It will be hard to find something cheap in that area for your adult kids. Try Hotel Panda (www.hotelpanda.it) or the convent Le Suore di Lourdes on Via Sistina (Tel
Tel. 011.39.06.474.5324) but be aware there is a 10:30p curfew!

Since you will have a limited time in Florence and Venice be sure to reserve any museums you wish to attend.
