Rome & Vatican Tours

My wife and I are avid travelers, however, this this trip we are bringing along my wife's mother and father (amature travelers). We only have a few days in Rome. We want to show them the big sites in the most exciting ways! Food tours, vatican at night, etc. Any and all tours with guides suggestions are welcome. Also i would welcome a reminder on anything i need to get tickets for in advance. Thank you!

There are really only a few things that must be booked in advance. The Borghese gallery is capacity controlled so must be booked in advance. http://www.ticketeria.it/ticketeria/borghese-regolamento-eng.asp The scavi tour of St. Peter's is capacity controlled also. If you only have a few days in Rome I would bypass this tour. You can book a tour or tickets for the Vatican museums here: http://biglietteriamusei.vatican.va/musei/tickets/do?weblang=en&do If you wish to visit the underground section of the colosseum you must book tickets for that. They have not released dates past August 31 yet but they should any day now. http://www.ticketclic.it/Gb/HTML/musei/colosseo.cfm Donna

These are great!! I love the behind the scenes and little secret guided tours! Is there usually such a high cost associated with these types of tours? I want to be sure we are absolutely getting our money's worth. KEEP EM COMING! Thanks!

No mobility issues. I would limit walking to a couple miles max. Actually, I'm a little frantic. We leave this Friday (August 17th)! Some might say I procrastinate, I think I work better under pressure! lol. KEEP EM COMING! Thanks all!

I would second Laurel's recommendation of the Eating Italy tour. We had a wonderful time, and our tourguide Luna was delightful!

The prices are reasonable. You are paying for expertise; that doesn't come cheaply. One or two well-done small tours will absolutely "make" your vacation. Francesca Caruso was the highlight of our first trip to Rome. 3 hours with her and I "got" the city I had been reading about for decades. I see the large group (24-30 people!) tours here all the time, trailing behind a disinterested guide with an umbrella or flower on a stick to ensure no one loses sight or him/her. Everyone looks bored, not engaged. With Walks of Italy, for example, you will be engaged and experience so much more than just "seeing the sights." For an overview of Rome, though, you coudl use the Hop On/Hop Off bus. Just an overview, mind you. Sort of an orientation. Leaving this week? Better contact some companies for tickets. They will sell out if they haven't already. The best ones will, anyway.
