Rome - Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel

We are a family of 5 going to Rome in about a 10 days. I was going to "pre-order" our tickets for the Vatican Museums/Sistine Chapel. The day we want to go is totally open, no time slots are full. I am wondering, since it is off season, can we save the $27 charge for pre-ordering on line and get the tickets when we get there? We could get them a couple days before we intend to go to the Vatican, when we arrive in Rome. Is this possible?
Thank You.

Vatican tickets are only good on the day of purchase unless you buy them online. You won't be able to stop into the museums on a Monday and buy tickets for a Thursday. Those tickets would need to be used on Monday. You can always go to the museums in the afternoon. The lines are usually very short to non-existent in the afternoons. If you go in the morning without pre-purchased tickets you'll wait in the line that can be hours long, even in the off season. Donna
