Rome Tuscany Amalfi Coast travel questions

Hey, all:

I am headed to Tuscany for the first time in May and have a question about travel within Italy.

My overall trip looks like this: Flying into Rome, spending 7 days in a villa in Citta della Pieve with friends, then solo to the Amalfi Coast (Praiano) for three nights, back to Rome for a night, then flying out the next morning.

We all have transportation to the villa, but it's the post-trip where I'm looking for suggestions. What would be the best way to get from Citta della Pieve to Praiano? Rent a car? Train? Driver?

I'm assuming going back to Rome from Praiano would be best by train. Does that sound right?

On another subject (maybe should be another thread), I'd love some advice on where to stay in Rome for my one night there. I'll only have an afternoon and a morning in Rome, and I'd like to make the most of it.

Thanks for any suggestions! Really looking forward to this trip. I just want to be sure I get to where I'm going. :)

There are no trains on the Amalfi coast.
You do not want or need a car there either!

From Città della Peieve- you would take a train from Chiusi I guess- to Rome/Naples then to Sorrento (Circumvesuviana)- from there a bus or driver

From Praiano you would take a bus to Sorrento- then Circumvesuviana train to Naples- then train to Rome
or driver to Sorrento or Salerno- train to Rome

I like to use www.rome2rio.com to see what my transportation options are

I advised you on TA to take the train to Naples and a driver from there. Note the late AM direct one. No way in the world would it make sense to go to Sorrento.

Back to Rome one could save the cost of a driver by taking a taxi to Amalfi, ferry to Salerno and train to Rome, which IMO would be a big waste of time.

Of course you can train to Naples then a private driver to Praiano.
We used this company for some transfers in the area last year- very pleased

Probably about 120€ from Naples to Praiano.

If that is not in your budget then it’s train/bus. There isn’t a ferry dock in Praiano.
You could also train to Salerno, ferry to Amalfi, bus to Praiano.

You only have 3 nights- which is really less than 2.5 days actually there. It’s going to take you a good part of the day to get there. Once there your transpo options are bus, feet, private driver. If you’re just going to chill that’s fine, but Praiano might not be the best choice for a base.
Can I ask why Praiano? Do you have lodgings booked?

To make the most of your very limited time- private driver Naples to Praiano then back to Naples for train to Rome would be money well spent.
