Rome travel

Hi, I will be in Rome next week. Should I prebook a taxi from the airport to take me to my Band B or can I easily pick one up at the airport when I arrive?

I believe taxis at Fiumicino are plentiful, maybe depending on what time you get in, late not so good?

Rates--at least as of 2017--are 48 Euro standard to central Rome.

No need to prebook
Fixed rate is 48 euros
Just head outside to the official taxi rank and get in line, it moves quickly
We hand the driver our address and a 50 euro note ( although tip is not necessary)

Do not go with anyone who approaches you outside the official taxi rank, they are not legit.

Also note that many areas in Rome are pedestrianized so your driver will get you as close to your destination as possible, you may have to walk a little bit.

Not required, but arranging the taxi through your hotel yields same price, but the driver is waiting for you when you come out baggage (with sign with your name on it). Saves some time.

Write the name of your hotel clearly on a card to show the driver.
Don't agree to anyone in the terminal or on the sidewalk offering you a taxi.
Just go to the official taxi rank outside.
Have a wonderful trip to Rome!

It doesn't save you much time to get an arranged driver, as they have to park a little ways away in the parking garage (and you have to haul your bags there). Also, if you have an arranged driver and your flight or bags are late arriving, you're supposed to contact the agency, which can be a hassle.

If you let us know which B&B you're staying at, we can confirm that it is within the 48 euro fixed rate area (and, yes, there are always taxis available).

Once you have your luggage go directly to the official taxi stand. Bypass the guys who approach you for a ride-they are not official and can over charge you. The official taxi will take you anywhere within the walls of Rome for 48 Euro.

Take the train from the airport to Termini Station, from there you can catch a taxi very easily to your hotel.
