Rome Tram service to Trastevere

Has anyone recently traveled (2025/2026) on tram #8 from Piazza Venezia to Trastevere? Is the tram the preferred option or is the bus? I will be staying in Rome early May for only 2 nights and wish to visit Santa Maria church plus walk the Trastevere neighborhood. Plus, is the walk over Tiber Island, crossing Ponte Fabricio worth doing? I have been to the top spots in Rome on a previous visit and don’t need to revisit them. Thanks

I was in Rome in December and was excited to see that both the Tram 8 and Tram 3 are now running again. The Tram 8 is a great way to get into to Trastevere. Google search for a map of the stops. Be aware that the trams don’t run on a set schedule. The wait for them sometimes takes many minutes.

Buses and trams (incl. #8) do travel on a set schedule and the timetable is available in numerous websites, including Moovit or ATAC or Roma Mobilità.

There is a set time for each stop. Obviously in the case of buses, which may be affected by traffic, sometimes the bus may be off schedule, but it's not that the driver can leave whenever he feels like it.
