Hi, Giangilberto from Milan, of the two strike announcements you found, the first does not apply to you, as noted in the text, USI-CIT explicitly excludes the railway and airline sectors. That leaves only USB, regarding what you were told earlier, there is a correction to be made, the railway strike does not end at 10:00 PM, but rather at 8:59 PM. The Ministry’s official register states “from 9:00 PM on October 29th to 8:59 PM on October 30th”, that one-hour difference falls right during your evening.
More importantly, however, is the issue of “guaranteed service periods.” While it is true that on weekdays, regional trains have minimum service windows, from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM and from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, and October 30, 2026, is a friday (a weekday), these windows do not guarantee that every train will run. Trenitalia publishes a regional list specifying which trains are guaranteed, identified by their train number and actual departure time. It is not enough for your train to simply depart within one of these windows; it must specifically appear on that list.
I have just checked the list for the Lazio region for weekdays myself. During the evening window, there are three guaranteed trains departing from Fiumicino Airport: train 20727 at 7:27 PM (bound for Fara Sabina-Montelibretti), train 20721 at 6:57 PM (bound for Orte), and train 20735 at 8:42 PM (bound for Roma Ostiense). All three pass through Ponte Galeria, which is the first stop on the FL1 line after the airport. Landing at 5:40 PM gives you plenty of time, even if you take your time getting through customs. My advice, however, is to look for the train number on the departure board rather than the scheduled time; during a strike, cancelled trains disappear from the displays, which can quickly lead to confusion, the train number is the only thing that doesn’t change. Also, keep in mind that only three trains will be running over a four-hour period, far fewer than usual, so they will likely be crowded.
As for the following day, you won’t have any issues, the strike ends at 8:59 PM on the 30th, so a 6:00 AM departure on the 31st falls well outside the strike window.
For a backup option, taxis are not affected by the strike, just be aware that since Ponte Galeria is located outside the Aurelian Walls, the fixed €55 fare for the city center does not apply, instead, the fare will be calculated based on the taximeter.
One last thing: it’s worth checking the Ministry’s official register, the one you’ve already linked, again the day before. Strikes are called off at the last minute more often than you might think, if the strike disappears from that page, it means it has been cancelled.
