Rome tours for family with 9, 7, 3 yo

My family will be spending a week in Rome in September. We want to find recommendations for tours or other experiences that would be good for us, especially our 9 year old boy, 7 year old boy, and 3 year old girl.
They love history and have been reading lots of books on ancient Rome. We have a limited budget for tours and want to spend it wisely.
Any recommendations?

You might consider a private tour since there are 5 of you. It can be tailored in length and topic/sights based on your interests and the guide would be able to address the children specifically, engaging them, and they wouldn’t be so bored with adult-focused talk.

Sonia Tavoletta is a private guide I like very much. I know from experience that 3 or 4 people can tour with her more economically than paying for 3 or 4 or 5 individual tickets for a large group tour. Reach out to her at [email protected].

On all the walking tours I have been on I have never seen families with young children, as they are long and you would have to pay the full price even for the littles. With kids that young I would download the Rick Steves walking tours and just get what you can out of it, knowing there will be interruptions. You can also look on AirBnb under "experiences" to see if anything is tailored for families.
