My husband, daughter, and I will be in Rome for two nights. We would like to use a tour guide to get around the city. Any suggestions?
In addition to Francesca (who is supposed to be marvelous), another favorite on this site is Mia Schettino. She can do pretty much any kind of custom-tailored itinerary as well as suggesting lots of possibilities depending on your interest. We hired her this past May for a four hour tour in Trastevere and found her to be charming, well-educated, entertaining and her English is practically flawless. I think she tends to book four-hour chunks of time. Her email is miarome at libero.it
Diane, I was also going to recommend Francesca Caruso. She has an incredible amount of knowledge and provides a really interesting tour. Her contact information is in the Guidebook. Cheers!
We (my sisters and daughter) have used Francesca Caruso in the past (last summer) and highly recommend her. She is a licensed guide of Rome, extremely knowledgeable, speaks impeccable English, and is a very honest person who goes out of her way to accomodate your interests. Her email is [email protected] Hope that helps.
Buon viaggio!
Based on a high recommendation from a friend, we also used Mia in Rome last week and I cannot recommend her highly enough! We did 3 separate mornings with her. The first morning, we met Mia to tour the Colosseum, Forum & Pantheon. Her grasp of history, archeology & Roman culture was phenomenal. I had my 4 kids with me and they loved the way she brought the history to life. At one point she had my daughter engaged in a gladiator sword fight so she could show just how those were fought in the Colosseum! On the 2nd day, we met Mia for a tour of the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Cathedral. She did an incredible job of taking us through the mazes of museum, artwork, etc. and we all agreed that we would not have enjoyed nearly as much without her to guide us! On the 3rd day, Mia picked us up with a private driver for an "Off the Beaten Path" tour which was definitely a highlight of our trip. She picked out perfect places to visit and we were able to visit many places that we never would have known about. The best part was at high-noon when we reached a hill overlooking the city just in time for see the cannon be shot to signal to the churches that they could start ringing their bells! Who knew?! We also felt fortunate to have Mia's wonderful suggestions for local restaurants and gelato shops. She was dead-on with her suggestions! You can't go wrong with her as a guide! Her e-mail is [email protected]
Definitely Francesca. She can't be beat!
Francesca is out of town when we are going. :-( She was nice enough to recommend a few guides. Thank you!
