We are planning to drive from Rome to Venice, spending two nights along the way, suggestions of town in which to stay to divide up the trip?
It will be helpful if you share whether this is your first trip, when you'll be there, and what kinds of things you enjoy doing.
Donn,
One point to mention about driving in Italy. An International Driver's Permit is compulsory, and must be used in conjunction with your home D.L. These can be obtained easily at any AAA office.
Happy travels!
Also keep in mind a car is a nightmare in Rome and useless in Venice. Pick it up on your way out (or train to Orvieto and pick it up there) and drop it off before arriving in Venice.
It's easy to drop in Venice. The only road in goes to the Piazzale Roma where the rental agencies are.
