Rome to Venice train cost - is this a good deal?

I have been waiting to purchase my train tickets until it is 120 days out. We are taking a train from Rome to Venice on August 18/15. The best I have found is 53Euros. Is this a good price or will it go lower? Is it just a matter of waiting and checking or does the price just increase as we near the date?

I'm seeing Super Economy fares of 27 euro at 10:50, 12:50, 13:50, 14:50, 17:25, 18:50, 19:50 at www.trenitalia.com. Where are you looking?

I was looking on the man in seat 61 on the Italia rail. Went onto Trentailia and found those 27E super economy seats too. Nice! Now is that a good price or is there a chance of them getting lower? If that is the best it will get, I will book them tonite.

Carol,

I just checked the trenitalia website: http://www.trenitalia.com & you can purchase a super economy train ticket (2nd class) from Roma Termini to Venezia S. Lucia for 27€. for August 18th.

There are different price levels for train tickets: Super economy, Economy & Base

  • Super economy are the least expensive (as low as 9€) & they sell out very fast,
however, be aware that these tickets are nonrefundable & unchangeable
so your dates must be firm.

  • Economy tickets are inexpensive but they also come with some
    restrictions.

  • Base tickets are full price tickets.

You may want to read this for more information regarding the different price tickets:http://www.trenitalia.com/cms/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=020e1a035296f310VgnVCM1000005817f90aRCRD

Carol,

Tickets at 27€pp are a great deal! You can check for tomorrow's date to get an idea of base (full) price & these tickets are going for 80€ - 109€ pp

Beware: If you will be arriving in Rome on this date, make sure you give yourself a BIG time cushion (several hours), as you don't know what unforeseen delays you may encounter (flight delay, airport delay due to customs & Immigration, baggage claim).

It is generally not recommended to buy train tickets in advance for day of arrival, however, at this price, you may want to take the risk.

Prices will not go down, when all the allotted 27 euro Super Economy fares are gone, then higher priced Economy fares will only be available.

Thanks everyone! I was able to purchase the 27E tickets and have them printed off. I so appreciate everyone's assistance and advice, it makes the planning and prearranging of a trip so much easier!

I'm glad that you've been able to purchase those super discounted tickets. It's hard for me to believe that people get talked into buying the expensive multi country Eurail Passes for places like Italy.
