Rome to Venice

Hi all!

Planning a honeymoon and have a transportation question. We are going to be in Rome from Tuesday, August 22- August 27. After that, we'd like to visit Tuscany (somewhere to relax), Siena and Florence before we go to Venice on Sept 2nd.

Any thoughts on which order we should do this and where we should stay in Tuscany. I really would like a nice place to relax for a few days. Should we train from Rome to Florence then double back with a car through Tuscany Hill towns? Or do we get a car and drive from Rome to through the Tuscany Hills to Florence?

Thank you!

Train from Roma Termini to Chiusi Chiaciano Terme. https://www.trenitalia.com/en.html

Rent car in Chiusi use Autoeurope.

Drive to your lodging.

When done in Tuscany, drop off car in Florence. Eliminating backtracking.

If you’ve never driven in Italy, please download this driving guide. It will keep you from some fines when you return home from ZTLs & bus lanes .. carefully monitor your speed limit and don’t drive while consuming alcoholic beverages.

The towns your going to do not require car rental, just take the train/bus. I would look into laying over in Orvieto, small and charming, about an hour north of Rome by train on the way to Siena. August will be hot as hell, so maybe think about going south from Rome to Sorrento to swim in the sea. Travel less, see more. J

Some agriturismi market their venues for weddings, so they might also be perfect for a relaxing honeymoon stay, and as a base to venture out about Tuscany in a car.

Although, the time you've allotted doesn't seem adequate for Tuscany, Siena and Florence. Maybe just Tuscany with a day's visit to Siena - park the car in a lot outside of town. Then have your bigger [crowded] city experience in Venice
