I am just in the beginning stages of planning a trip to Italy this September. I will be flying into Rome and staying there for two full days (have been to Rome before). The third day will be a travel day to Sorrento which will be my home base. I will only have four full days in this area and am trying to prioritize what towns and sites to see in just a mere four days. Capri, Sorrento, Positano, Ravello, and the Amalfi Coast are my top picks. This seems like a lot to see in four days. Is it possible to combine any of these sites in a day?
You forgot Pompeii, don't forget Pompeii.
The easiest to combine is Positano and the Amalfi Coast bus ride because it is the same trip. The bus will stop at Positano and you can spend some time exploring the village and then catch the bus to Amalfi.
I would replace Pompeii with Herculaneum. I enjoyed it much more; the ruins look like they were a town much more than Pompeii, and it is more compact.
BTW I'm not sure I'm clear on your post. Do you have 4 days in the Sorrento area, or 4 days total (of which 2 are in Rome)?
in positano get off at second stop not the first if you get off the first stop you will need to get local bus to town at second stop just walk down hill to town and then walk back up to get bus to amall
