Fly to Palermo or Catania, Sicily's main international airports.
RyanAir also flies to Trapani airport from Rome.

Flying is the best option. Ryanair flies to both Palermo and Catania.

We connected thru Rome. We flew into Catania's airport. Very easy, quick flight.

I would also suggest flying from Rome to Sicily.
We were on a guided tour that started in Rome so it was a bus tour.
