Our thought was to take the train to Naples then take the local train to Pompeii. We will have all our gear. Does anyone know if there are storage lockers at the Pompeii train station. Then cont to Sorrento via train and lastly a car and driver to positano. That's on this plan?

You can do it. From Rome to Naples take about 1H20M fast train. From Naples to Pompeii 30M. Pompeii to Sorrento 30M. From Sorrento to Positano by bus 1H.( bus stop outside the train station)
