Rome to Port at Civetecchia

I understand there is a train from Rome to the cruise ship port at Civetecchia. On arrival at Civetecchia, how close is the port to the train station? Is it necessary to take a bus or cab to the ship?

It is fairly close to the port. Would be possibly walkable but not with luggage. We took a bus last time but some people took a cab. There will be cabs waiting. We stayed in Rome once just before a cruise for only one night but would not do that again--quite a few hotels in Civitavecchia.

The city runs a cheap bus between the train station and the port for 2 euros, but you can't buy a ticket from the bus driver. Buy it in the station at the ticket window, the station's cafe, or the "Tourist Information" travel agency. It's a long walk with luggage, so I wouldn't do it.

Most cabs and busses can’t go on the piers so you go to the port authority free bus station and ask which bus serves your ship. Some busses stop at multiple ships so pay attention. Yes, its a long hot cobblestony walk with luggage but we did it because the public bus is half hourly.
