We will be traveling to Italy late July/early August and plan to spend 4 days in Rome, 4 days in Sorrento/Positano area and 4 days in Florence. We are wondering if anyone knows of a car service or an easy way to travel from Rome with a stop in Pompeii to tour and then on to Sorrento or Positano? (I am still working on accomodations in Sorrento or Positano). Wondering if there are car services that offer something like this or is it better to take the train and do it on our own? Would it be safe to leave our luggage with a driver while we spent the afternoon in Pompeii? We will have our 3 teenage children with us ( 2nd visit for husband and me ). We hired drivers the last time we were in Italy for airport transfers, but nothing like this. Just wondering if anyone knows if this is possible?

Seem it would be easier to go straight to Sorrento first and checkin a hotel get settled and then take day trips from there to Pompeii and Positano. That is what we did. You would go on the train Rome Terminin to Naples Centrale At Naples Centrale walk next door and catch the The Campania Express train to Sorrento. And that is the fast way.

Also you can go to Pompeii roundtrip yourself from Sorrento on the Circumvesuviana.
I did not get a chance to do it but there is a Ferry to Positano from Sorrento.
I think this info is all in one of the guide book out there. Also you say you are going to Florence. You might want go to Sorrento first and work you way North so you do not have to back track

Viator offers transfers from Rome to Sorrento. I think the previous poster may have the right idea about getting settled into the hotel in Sorrento and then picking up day tours from there.

Pompeii did not seem like a quick place to visit for adults (traveling with teens) but knowledgeable and interested in architecture and history. I can not picture a ride from Rome to there and then a tour and then a ride to Sorrento to checkin.
