Rome to Pompeii daytrip

Sorry can't help you with name of good company, we did it on our own, fast train from Rome to Naples and then local train from the same train station to Pompeii. Don't remember total cost, only remember the local train was about 4 euro one way. If you do this, be sure to get off at second Pompeii stop, the ruins are only about 500 feet from train station,total travel time about two hours one way.Try to go early in AM.

There's really no need to find a tour company for this. It's very easy and cheap to do on your own. You just take the train from the termini to Naples centrale. Once there you go downstairs to the commuter train. Board the train heading to Sorrento. This will take you to the Pompeii Scavi stop. The trip to Naples takes about an hour and the trip out to the ruins takes a half hour. Very quick and easy to do. Just leave early in the morning and plan on coming back late. Donna

Donna, we will be staying in Sorrento 3 days and want to go to Pompeii from there. How do we do it?

Connie, at Sorrento, take the Circumvesuviana and get off at the "Pompeii Scavi" stop (there's a different stop for the city of Pompeii). Trains run about every half hour.
