Rome to Pompei via Frecciarossa

Hi

We are planning a Sunday day trip from Rome to Pompei scavi and would like to take advantage of the nonstop service on the Frecciarossa . I understand that a shuttle bus is provided from the central train station in Pompei to the scavi.

Has anyone booked that recently? The Trenitalia site shows the train and the cost (leaving at 8:53 and arriving at the scavi 10:55 for 39.80 euros) , but when I click to buy, it says I cannot purchase on this site.

If I click to purchase I get a popup
"Attention!
We are sorry, this travel solution cannot be purchased on this sales channel"

Can anyone help me with this one? I've never taken an Italian train...

Not sure which Sunday you are trying to reserve, but the high speed train runs on the third Sunday of the month - not every Sunday.

Vas0051 you must put Pompei Scavi as arrival station.

Then, pick a Sunday as day of travel to see the direct train departing at 8:53.
If you enter any other day, the site will show the route with a train transfer in Naples main station into a Circumvesuviana Metropolitano train. Unfortunately Trenitalia can't sell the Circumvesuviana tickets.

Since there are no high speed tracks between Naples and Pompei, I don't get the benefit of taking this expensive direct train and then a bus. The Circumvesuviana station is in front of the site entrance.
