Rome to Panicale

We are renting a villa in Panicale in Umbria in August. We will be flying in early to tour Rome for a few days. Looking for a stop on the drive along the way from Rome to Panicale to spend a few hours. Traveling with my wife and 4 young adults 18-24. Is there nice town/village or sight(outside of Rome) to break up the day?
Thanks RCP

ViaMichelin.com found several Panicales in Italy. Is yours the one that's basically between Pienza and Perugia? If so, VM offers up a couple of possible routes. The faster (western) one goes right past Orvieto. Lovely hilltown. Totally worth seeing. In fact, it's worth more than a full day. Do some research ahead of time to decide where you want to focus your time; the Duomo is special.

The other proposed route (eastern) goes right past Todi.

I'd favor the western route because much of it is highlighted in green on the VM map, indicating that it's especially scenic. (You'll have to zoom way in to see the green.)

I think you'll need to do some careful research on cars to find something that will accommodate six adults and their luggage, but perhaps you've already taken care of that.

Thx. Yes it’s in perugia. Still debating on 1-2 cars. Hertz had some that could accommodate. Will do some research. Thanks again!
