Hi All! Is there a direct train from Rome to Ostia Antica. I have read so many different things I am getting majorly confused. Some advice seems outdated. I have a Rick Steves Italy 2017 book & can't find any info in it.
Thank you in advance.

just one change on the Metro rail
it is very easy-- even I figured it out
Really enjoyed our day there.
At the bottom, this link provides info on how to get to Ostia Antica: https://www.rome.net/ostia-antica
It was very easy to do. Metro line B to Piramide. Then next to the metro is a commuter train that takes you to Ostia Antica. The park is a short walk from the train.
Thank you both!
Ostia Antica is easy to get there, and I highly recommend it.
When you arrive, don’t spend too much time at the first few sites. It just keeps getting better as you walk into it!
I also highly recommend Ostia Antica. It makes a wonderful day trip from Rome!
Pompeii is a stunning site but a visit to the National Archeological Museum in Naples is almost a necessity insofar as almost everything of value from Pompeii is on display here. Household items, statuary, fabulous glassware, the stunning Alexander Mosaic, gladiatorial kit, and even some thoroughly amazing bronze water valves are all here and flesh-out the other wise bare ruins of the buried city. That being the case you might want to save Pompeii for trip when you can spend at least two days in the area. (Naples is fantastic so you certainly won't lack for other things to do while you're there.)
Interesting that Ostia Antica and Castel San Angelo were dropped in the 2018 guidebook. I still have a 2016 guidebook and information is available there.
Eric, when you said that Ostia A. and Castel S.A. were dropped from the R.S. book did you mean the Italy guidebook? I would think it would still be included in the Rome book. When we went to Ostia A. we had the Rome book and it included a great walking tour of the site which I think is also on R.S. audio.. I believe the Italy guidebook just tells you how to get there and the hours--minimal info. Haven't used any of the pocket guides.
Yep, what Jean said. When you arrive, walk all the way to the far end of the main street, then start working your way back to the entrance. We learned this the hard way. IMHO, Rick needs to update the Ostia section in his Rome book to reflect this.
Yes, I was referring to Italy Guidebook only. Not sure about Rome book.
