Shopping in Rome

Greetings,

We are arriving a day early for the 13 day Southern Italy tour, starting in Rome and ending in Naples. Having learned a lot about logistics and gotten ideas for pre-tour activities from previous posts, I am thinking that maybe we could spend our first day prior to the beginning of the tour shopping. Any suggestions along those lines??

Thank you!

Just remember you’ll gave to carry whatever you purchase around with you thru entire tour

What kind of shopping are you referring to?
Souvenirs, gifts? Those sort of things can be found en route
High end? Maybe Rome is best for that-I wouldn’t know ;)

I would recommend a food tour on your extra day up front
They are always tons of fun and very educational as well
Eating Europe Trastevere and Testaccio tours get high marks in this forum
We loved the AM Trastevere tour

Or review what is covered in Rome tour and visit whatever is not covered that you would like

Domus Aurea might be my choice in that case

Hi Christine H

Souvenirs, gifts is what I was thinking. Great idea about the food tours!

Thank you,

We are going to Rome, Amalfi and Naples in 1 week. We really enjoyed our time in Tuscany and brought home several bottles of good quality olive oil, specifically a peppery Tuscan olive oil that was so great to drizzle on veggies or dip bread in. Does anyone know of market or place I can try olive oil to buy for gifts? W

I just looked at what that tour includes and it does NOT include visits to Colosseum/Forum, Vatican/St.Peter’s
Or the Borghese
To me those are in the top 3 must sees in Rome
YMMV
You do have a free afternoon on tour but you wouldn’t be able to do more than one
I’d strongly consider doing one of those venues on this day

Personally, I wouldn't spend my first day before a tour doing gift shopping - Why not check out grocery stores & those yummy little speciality shops attached to places you will be visiting along the way? Not to mention schlepping that stuff. If you haven't seen anything interesting, do the shopping at the end in Naples, IMO. Instead, agreed, see if you can get tickets to the Borghese, it's gorgeous, timed entry and much more manageable than St Peters / Vatican. We loved the Eating Europe Testaccio food tour, others rave about evening Trastevere food tour, lots of options.
