You will need to take the 'Leonardo Express' train to Roma Termini (travel time 32 minutes/runs every 30 minutes).

Option 1 involves one train change: Roma Termini >> Intercity train to La Spezia >> Regionale train to Monterosso.
(Roma to Monterosso = 4.5 hours)

There are other options (involving 2 train changes) such as Roma Termini >> Florence>> Pisa Centrale>> Monterosso.

You can check train schedules here :http://www.trenitalia.com (click on British flag icon on top right to change to English)

You will need these train station names( Italian) when searching for tickets/train schedules on the trenitalia website:

  • FROM: Fiumicino Aeroporto
  • TO/FROM: Roma Termini
  • TO: Monterosso

Will you be visiting Florence? If so, then it will be a shorter trip from there.

Karen,

The travel time from FCO to Roma Termini will be about 32 minutes if using the Leonardo Express. There are frequent departures so you won't have long to wait once you get to the airport rail station. NOTE that there are two trains serving the airport, the Leonardo Express and the FM-1. Be sure to board the right train! Also, BE SURE to validate your tickets prior to boarding or you'll risk hefty fines which will be collected on the spot!

What time is your flight scheduled to arrive? The quickest option to reach Monterosso (note spelling) from Rome is to use one of the direct trains to La Spezia Centrale, which have a travel time of about 3H:45M. From La Spezia Centrale, it's only about 15 minutes to Monterosso.

When you buy your tickets at the airport rail station, be sure to specify your end destination as Monterosso. You'll likely be provided with three separate tickets, for each segment of your trip.

You can see all the rail solutions on the Trenitalia website.
